The 'Little Hercules' Controversy

On Monday's "Insider," viewers were introduced to 12-year-old mini-muscleman RICHARD SANDRAK. Whittled into a bodybuilding work of art, his brawny biceps alone are a force to be reckoned with.

But just how did this wunderkind of sports science, nicknamed "Little Hercules," develop that fantastic physique? Our own VICTORIA RECAÑO spent the day with this pre-teen titan and his supportive mom, LENA, to get inside Richard's world of blockbuster body training. Yet, controversy looms as recent reports have surfaced regarding possible steroid use.

"It's really frustrating," says Richard about the speculation that he uses artificial enhancements.

"It's uncomfortable for me," adds Lena. "Because I knew it wasn't steroids at all, it was just the way we live, and to prove it, we had to go through a lot of tests -- blood tests, bone tests, a lot of different tests."

"I passed them all," assures Richard. "I have all the tests to prove my point that I don't take steroids and that's final. Some people suspect that I do because they don't know the right way to train."

And train Richard does. He began working out at the age of 2, inspired by his martial artist father and a mom who is actively involved in aerobics.

"When I was really small, my parents used to train a lot, so I thought I would join in," recalls Richard about his road to rock-hard abs. "My parents saw the strength in me. I just had natural strength. So I continued weight lifting as I grew stronger and older, and while I was lifting, I developed muscles."

To maintain those perfect pecs, Richard has a rigorous weekly routine -- three days at the gym, three at home. "Right now it involves a lot of cardio aerobics," the boy wonder tells Victoria.

As a way of showing other young folks all that he has learned about health and exercise, Richard has released his own workout video because he's "been doing this for a long time and I can show kids how to be fit, show them how to make their dreams come true."

And it looks like this role model's own dreams of becoming an actor are starting to be realized. Richard has signed a three-picture movie deal and is currently shooting one of them, 'The Amazon Kid,' in which he plays a young, Tarzan-like character.

"Instead of someday being the world's strongest man, it would be better to be like the world's best actor or something. That would be really cool."

I doubt that he was given steroids, he's really not very big. Look at the pics on his site.

Yeah I agree. If you can really issolate the muscle group your working with and bring it to an exhuasted state, they will respond with growth. If you add the proper diet you will totally capitalize and end up with the perfect muscle.. Thats why I wanted to know for sure before I slandered anyone. The worst thing is to hear people say your using steroids when your not. Its hard work and dedication that keep the body going!!!!
